Korkut Kaan Tokgöz is a faculty member in Electronics Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Sabancı University. His research brings together high-frequency integrated circuits, ultra-high-data-rate wireless communication, sensor systems, Edge AI, and IoT hardware and software.
Education
- Ph.D. in Physical Electronics, Tokyo Institute of Technology, 2018. His dissertation, Millimeter-Wave CMOS Transceiver Toward 100Gb/s Wireless Communication Systems, was advised by Prof. Kenichi Okada and co-advised by Emeritus Prof. Akira Matsuzawa.
- M.Eng. in Physical Electronics, Tokyo Institute of Technology, 2014. His thesis focused on device characterization for millimeter-wave CMOS amplifiers.
- M.Sc. in Electromagnetics, Middle East Technical University, 2012. His thesis investigated broadband phase shifters using surface-micromachined lumped components.
- B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Middle East Technical University, 2009, with concentrations in microwaves and antenna theory, and telecommunications.
Academic and industry background
Tokgöz joined Sabancı University as a faculty member in January 2022. From 2019 to 2022, he was a Specially Appointed Assistant Professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology, contributing to mixed-signal, analog/RF, millimeter-wave and sub-terahertz integrated-circuit research, as well as sensor, Edge-AI, and IoT systems.
From 2018 to 2019, he worked at NEC in Kawasaki, Japan, as a Senior Researcher in the Central Research Laboratories and as an Assistant Manager in the Wireless Access Solution Division. His work included 5G power-amplifier development and high-power, high-efficiency amplifiers for fixed point-to-point wireless links. He has also contributed to research and engineering activities at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, TechIdea, Axelspace, and Fujitsu Laboratories in Japan.
Research focus
His current interests include energy-efficient millimeter-wave and sub-terahertz wireless systems toward 6G; mixed-signal and analog/RF integrated circuits; de-embedding, calibration, and high-frequency device characterization; sensors and Edge-AI systems; and machine-learning-assisted modeling of active and passive semiconductor devices.
